Executive Director’s BIO

Minister Johnny Banks Sr. is founder and Executive Director of A Knock At Midnight NFP. Minister Banks is committed to promoting his vision to collaborate with educational and community institutions to bring knowledge, information and heightened awareness of issues and problems impacting community health, effective parenting, character education, life skills, and community organizing. Utilizing seminars, workshops and trainings, AKAM creates positive youth programming and character education. Minister Banks has and continues to work with:

  • IL Department of Human Services funded programs including: TeenREACH NRI – Neighborhood Recovery Initiative Safety NetWorks Community Health and Prevention Programs
  • Facilitated Effective Parenting, Anger Management and Domestic Violence Trainings for clients referred by Cook County Social Services, IL Department of Public Aid, IL Department of Children and Family Services, Cook County Adult Probation and various child welfare agencies.
  • Provider of Family Advocacy and Family Centered Services for Illinois Department of Children and Family Services
  • Lead Agency for LAN 79 (Local Area Network) community based collaborative in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services
  • Initiated, developed, maintained and administrated the facilitation of trainings and workshops for Chicago Public Schools teachers, students and parents. For teachers training courses included, sensitivity training, community awareness, substance abuse, gang prevention and maternal and child health.
  • Provider of Student Mentoring and Advocacy Program (MAP) targeting 60 at-risk students to improve behavior inside and outside of the school as well as impact attendance and grades.
  • Provider of Culture of Calm Attendance Management Program serving 20 schools citywide to improve the culture of the school to decrease incidences of violence and eliminate fear.
  • Directed Chicago Public Schools funded Saturday Morning Alternative Reach out and Teach (SMART) program. Developed a ten- session curriculum for students and parents participants. The program content consisted of Character Development, Substance Abuse Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Life Skills training.
  • Developed community outreach efforts designed to market programs and increase service provision. Outreach initiatives take place in a broad spectrum of the community focusing on increasing consumer awareness of organization, community issues and related services. Efforts are implemented at supermarkets, shelters, churches, banks, schools, agencies and zones of the community where others would not travel.
