A Knock At Midnight, NFP (AKAM) is a grass root nonprofit organization established in September of 2003. Located on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois, AKAM is focused on providing direct services in the communities of Englewood West Englewood, Auburn/Gresham, Greater Grand Crossing and Washington Park. However, our services are also extended throughout other neighborhoods within the city of Chicago and surrounding suburban areas.
AKAM’s mission is to develop community collaborations to provide community health and prevention education services to youth, adults, and community residents. Adam’s mission is to collaborate with public schools, churches, nonprofits, private community organizations, the juvenile justice system and other government institutions. Through seminars, workshops and trainings, AKAM will create positive character development and enhance the life skills of all participants. AKAM implements program initiatives designed to empower the community with improved knowledge, information, and educational opportunities.
AKAM’s purpose is to work with families within the heart of low income neighborhoods and communities. We seek to lift the spirits and self-esteem of youth, adults, and families broken by the darkness of substance use and abuse, peer pressure, violence, gang involvement, anti-social behavior, teen parenting, and lack of information.
A Knock At Midnight’s goal is to increase self-sufficiency among our youth, encourage productive citizenship throughout our communities, and provide a safe, drug and violence free environment where the community and its residents can thrive.

- Increase social and emotional learning
- Increases awareness of community health and prevention
- Create positive youth development
- Strengthens families and communities
- Bridge communication gaps between students, parents, and teachers
- Reduce incidences of violence, substance use and abuse, school truancy and dropouts
